DIY Chalk Paint Wood Message Board

Courtney Tomesch DIY Chalk Paint Wood Message Board

I have a DIY for you! I love doing DIYs and plan to a new one once a month. This one is a Wood Message Board using chalk board paint. I made as a wedding gift for my friend Brandy and David. They got married in the Redwoods in Northern California. I saw this DIY on HGTV's Handmade YouTube channel and loved the idea. I am obsessed with that channel they post a lot of great DIYs on there. When choosing the colors for the paint, I choose colors that matched Brandy's dress and I choose to use their initials and wedding day. But you could choose colors that work for your room decor or your favorite color and write any massage you like.
Read on to see how to make this Wood Message Board.

1: Tape of large section diagonally
2. Paint with black chalkboard paint
3. Let dry (a few hours) and remove tape
4. Tape off black section and another section, leaving a section of bare wood.
5. Paint with Ink chalkboard paint
6. Let dry and remove paint. I let dry for 24 hours before writing with chalk paint
7. Hammer small nails to side of wood plaque just a little bit.
8. Measure nylon sting and cut string (You way want to burn end of cut string with a lighter to seal from fraying.)
9. Tie the nylon off on nails
10. Use chalk to cure the paint. Rub chalk all over paint and brush using a dry paper towel or rag
11. If using a specific font, print out and rub chalk on back of paper, then tape on wood and trace with a pencil.
12. Use Chalk Paint pen to write over traced font.**
13. OR, you can write whatever you want and not trace it.
14. Let Chalk Paint pen dry then hang on wall or door.
** If you mess up just use a damp towel and whip off then re-cure with chalk.

All items were purchased by myself and this is not my idea. The original video can be found here.
