I printed things on T-shirts! (Screen Printing Class Assignments)

Harry Potter Screen print Card
I took a screen printing class last semester at school. I've had an interest in screen printing since I learned a little bit about in in high school and finally have the chance to learn more in college. We learn 2 different printing processes and had to produce 5 projects. (I only have 4 because I ran out of time.)

The first assignment was 1 color card- My first thought when my instructor told us this assignment was Harry Potter. I don't know why, maybe because I always think about Harry Potter. But anyways I definitely knew I wanted to do something Harry Potter related so I went to the trusty Google to find inspiration. I saw the Marauder's Map and thought that would be a fun idea for card. I found all the images online and traced them myself on Illustrator. Which was quite difficulty because I've never used Illustrator before but I managed and loved the way the cards turned out.
The second assignment was 2 Color Poster- This one I didn't have time for. I had an idea I really liked but oh well maybe I'll have to just do it on my own sometime.

The third assignment was 1 color line on textile - This idea took me a while to come up with. I was originally going to do Arrow (TV show) but I didn't like what I had. So I went to Google again and saw a Guardians of the Galaxy poster with this saying. I loved the way it looked so I grabbed it, tweaked it to fit the requirements. I also loved how this turned out.

The fourth assignment was 1 color halftone on textile. "Halftone is the reprographic technique that simulates continuous tone imagery through the use of dots, varying either in size, in shape or in spacing, thus generating a gradient like effect." I chose to do The Hunger Games Mockingjay poster for this one because I was assigned this right before the movie came out. I thought it would look sweet on a shirt. Only thing I would have done differently with this one was invert the image before print the positive. This would have made the image on the shirt look more like the poster. lesson learned for next time. I still think it looks cool.

The last assignment was 2 color on textile- This time I wanted to do something different and I used a canvas tote bag and chose something Harry Potter. I found an outline of Hogwarts and the saying "Hogwarts will always there to welcome you home."

This class was a lot of fun and sparked my interest in doing screen printing. Maybe one day in the future I'll talk the second screen printing class. But I really hope to get my own screen printing kit so I can just do it at home!
